My Big Horn Basin
An Olympic Silver Medalist was in the Big Horn Basin over the weekend and was greeting many young fans.
Devin Logan won the Silver Medal in the 2014 Winter Olympic Games. Logan won the medal for Slopestyle in the women’s freestly skiing. She also won silver for the same event in the 2012 Winter X Games in Aspen, Colorado.
Logan was in Cody Saturday for the Sleeping Giant benefit party.
During a meet and greet at Cody’s Sunlight Sports, Logan spoke to the importance of a local, affordable ski area for youth skills development. Logan remembers the cost and help she received when she began skiing near her hometown of West Dover, Vermont.
“The academies that I went to weren’t cheap and definitely being from a small town I got a bunch of help,” said Logan. “I went through so many scholarships to fund myself during the winter, try to get new sponsors because I always needed new equipment and my parents couldn’t afford it. It’s such a similar situation and that’s why I’m really happy to be here and talk about it with the kids because it’s very personal.
“I remember working my butt off doing three jobs during the summer in order to make a trip out west and get my career started. I can definitely relate.”
Logan spoke later Saturday evening to the attendees of cocktail hour and dinner party at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West.
